NorthSide Owners

Co-Owners, Shannon Goins and Michael Smith
Shannon Goins loves to tell people about
fish poop (really!) and work in the greenhouse at NorthSide
Aquatics with plants and fish. She specializes in coral
reef aquaria and education about how to set up and maintain
aquariums and ponds properly, hence the obsessive compulsion to
talk to people about fish poop. On any given weekend you
can find her in her water shoes wading in the number of ponds at
NorthSide.
Shannon received her masters degree in International Studies
from Ohio University and holds masters level certification in
K-12 education for German and Teaching English as a
Second/Foreign Language (TESL/TEFL). She received her
bachelor's degree in German with a minor in biology from Hendrix
College in Conway, AR.
In her free time, Shannon loves to be on
whitewater in a kayak or a raft. She has rafted both the
Zambezi and Futaleufu Rivers in Zimbabwe and Chile. Travel
is a passion of hers and she loves to sail.
Michael Smith grew up in Germany and has
had a lifetime love of aquariums. He specializes in
freshwater planted aquaria and pond design. Show him a
pond and he can tell you 10 ways to improve the design.
Mike has designed a number of ponds around
central Arkansas. He has taken on several challenging
projects because he loves to figure out how to make complex
designs work correctly. His hands-on/ "there must be a way
to do this" approach makes him one of the most sought-after pond
experts in the area.
Mike's hobbies are paragliding, kayaking, and
sailing. He has been paragliding in the Alps and hopes to
return one day to do it again.
